Theology Matters, January 2016

Why Theology Matters?

Does theology matter?  When you hear the word theology what do you think of?  Do you automatically turn your mind off?  Do you think that isn’t for you?  “I’ll leave that deep stuff to my pastor to think about.  I live in the real world and don’t have time for that.”

Maybe you have felt this way before.  If so, you are not alone.  The problem is this attitude comes from a misunderstanding of what it means to think about theology.

Some people might even say, “I don’t need to learn about theology, I just need to love Jesus.”  Here is a funny example of this response.

A. W. Tozer once said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”  Thinking about God is a theological exercise.  It does not necessarily follow however, that we will think correct things about God.  So how do we know what is right?  Can we really know God?

The good news is, God has revealed himself in the pages of scripture!  The basis of good Theology starts with understanding that God is the God of the Bible and not a god of our own imagination or creation.

Let’s get to know him together.  I look forward to talking more about Theology and what it means to be a Christ follower in an increasingly secular world.  I hope you will join me and see why “Theology Matters.”
